"La Mode" is a collection of legendary japanese photographer Shoji Ueda's mostly black and white fashion photographs.
Shoji Ueda
Born in Sakai-machi, Saihaku-gun (now Sakaiminato) in Tottori Prefecture Japan, 1913. After finished Yonago prefectural junior high school, he joined the Yonago Photography Circle. In 1932, he moved to Tokyo to enter Oriental School of Photography. After graduation, he returned to his hometown and opened his own photo studio. In 1939, his first art-directing photo, "Four Girls" received a special prize at the 13th Exhibition of the Japanese Photographs. In 1949, series "My Family appeared in the magazine", the first of widely acclaimed works featuring Tottori's beaches and sand dunes. In 1958, his works were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, added to MoMA's photograph collections. He began a series of fashion photographs ("Dunes: Mode") from 1983.
