I took on this project partly as a game, and not only for personal reasons, which will be explored in the third part of this work, but also because the game of chess always combines improvisation and cold calculation, which perfectly suits the demands of contemporary art. I believe Marcel Duchamp, who always tried to push the boundaries of established concepts in his work and was a recognized grandmaster, said, "In my life, chess and art stand at opposite poles, but don't be fooled. Chess is not just a mechanical function. They are plastic, so to speak. Every time I move the pawns on the board, I create a new shape, a new pattern, and thus I am satisfied with an ever-changing outline"

Ordeal by Chess is part of a project that consists of three parts:
1 Part : "Correspondence Chess" - A set of eight cards with collages that can be used for a correspondence game.
2 Part: "Ordeal by Chess" - A mock chess textbook containing spreads from my sketchbook, including pages from the real textbook, supplemented with archival photographs and quotes.
3 Part: "Child's Problem" - The book, part biographical, part autobiographical, combines fact and fiction. Work on the book continues.

16 copies of the special edition will be released when all three parts of the project are ready.
