This book was created with material collected from Borissova's exhibition "Wrapped up in Books" at IACK, Kanazawa, Japan (30 July - 14 August 2022, where she installed a hat box with prints for swap. "They had a Hat" is a continuation of her book "He Had a Hat".

"He Had a Hat" is an artist's book in which the hidden memories of an individual are resurfaced through the stories of fictional characters. Text by Irish novelist Samuel Beckett. Excerpts from three stories, "The Expelled", "First Love" and "Molloy", written in English and Russian, and to highlight images that fit my personal experience of being fatherless. In order not to talk directly about such backgrounds, I enciphered the original meaning with the help of drawings that resemble the scribbles left in a book by a child. ─ Julia Borissova
