Carolle Benitah embroiders with her brush and transforms small abandoned prints into works of art. Her works with gold leaf, always studied, calibrated and relevant, make the images come alive and visible again. Faces touch a golden background, others disappear, lines guide the gaze, joining or separating two elements, bubbles float like small planets of pure gold.
By looking at her images, we sometimes think we recognize relatives or ourselves and find fragments of our history; a history to be rewritten and reinvented from a variety of clues and a material that seems to willingly lend itself.
A silhouette, a dress, a gesture, all evoke other silhouettes, other dresses, and other gestures, bringing back lost and familiar memories. Landscapes become the backdrops in front of which actors exchange roles.
Beyond her mysteries, Carolle Benitah's poetic work reveals the magic of everyday life transformed by artists.
