Published with an essay by Yamaori Tetsuo and artist statement by Shunji Dodo, Japan Sea documents the ordinary life of the people who live along the coastal regions of Japan. This publication beautifullly captures the relationship between the individuals and their environment, portraying not only portraits of the people themselves but also portraying their surrounding nature, landscapes and environment that majestically fill the images captured within this body of work. Here the everyday is captured, scenes of pastoral life to friendly group portraits reflect Dodo's attempt to face all of life as it is in and amongst the variencies of the mundane to the extraordinary.
"We meet people, and we all die someday. In this seemingly mundane everyday life, I desire to face, as much as I can, the rawness of hte people who live thier lives vibrantly in their own places. As I kept photographing, this was something that stayed in my mind along with the main theme 'SHINDOFUNI', a Buddhist belief; our body and the earth are never apart, are always connected as one."
