The freelance photojournalist Antonín Kratochvíl (b. 1947) is an internationalist. Both his reportage and his portraits of famous people exhibit unadulterated directness. From his home in New York he regularly travels to areas of social unrest and war, to document people in extreme situations and crisis conditions. One of his frequent topics is the inhuman situation of children in economically weak parts of the globe. A winner of many awards for work that is published in magazines and books around the world, Kratochvíl is a proponent of the tradition of humanist photography, done with the sincere hope of making a contribution to setting things right. The current book, the first to provide an overview of his thematically organized publications Broken Dream, Mercy, Incognito and Sopravvivere has an introductory article by the print and photojournalist Michael Persson.
