It took nine years, thousands of people and 50 million man hours to build. It's delivering 109km of high-speed railway, the world's longest span, concrete, high-speed rail bridge, 26km of tunnel including the biggest ever under London and St. Pancras International, a world class station. It's the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, now known as High Speed 1 (HS-1) -- the first major new railway in the UK for over 100 years and the first high-speed line theUK has ever seen.

HS1 is slashing journey times from London to Paris and Brussels. It brings new levels of reliability to rail travel. It will be the catalyst for more than 17,000 new homes and 94,000 jobs. HS1 is a thing of real ingenuity -- dreamt, planned and delivered by 21st Century pioneers. People who have set a precedent for others to follow.

This book honors all the people who made it possible.
