"The visual archive of an era. It sounds pathetically presumtuous, but according to AoRTa Art Center's vector of interest and honesty of intentions it is exactly this objective that its series of books pursues. the Center invites artists not only to exhibit their work to the public at large, but also to work on a new project. To see, to feel, to express. Books by Ron Sluik and Ulay have already been published. This book by Bertien is a continuation of the series.

Bertien arrived in Moldova for the first time in the early '90s: both the Yugoslav and the Transnistrian wars were going on at the same time then. The first photographs made in Moldova were published in the book " A Hundred Years A Hundres Winters" (one of the pioneering photo-books on the es-USSR - the best book in the Netherlands, two editions". Somehow Bertien is attracted to come back to such places. Her soul resonates to the East-European beats."
