Czech Josef Koudelka is acknowledged to be one of the greatest contemporary photographers, and is particularly well-loved in Greece. His reputation was made internationally by the photographs he shot of the invasion of Prague by Warsaw Pact troops (in August 1968). Since 1975 he has been a regular member of the Magnum photographic agency.
This retrospective presents all the stages and themes of his creative output over 40 years in photography. The exhibition commences with the chapters “The Beginning” and “The Quest” (original prints from the end of the 1950s to the beginning of the 1960s), and continues with a selection of some of his best groups: “Theatre”; “Gypsies”; “The Invasion”; Exiles” and ends with his recent panoramic work called “Chaos”. A selection of photographs by Josef Koudelka, which reveals the world as he saw it.
This exhibition is one of a series of events organised by the French Presidency of the European Union.
