The series is named after a small restaurant in Gunma prefecture which came to light in 1992 for running under-the-table prostitution. The glittering naming nonsense of Japanese bars, night clubs and love hotels has allure of a magic spell.
The series is composed of three parts—pictures of the actual place, nude portraits taken in Tokyo as well as hotels in Gunma, and neon signs along Route 17 connecting these two locationsPrinted from the monochrome film the images were colored with one of six-color silver halide crystals and dye couplers on the photographic color paper.
As I developed them in darkness I felt the excitement of a night walk on a neon-lit road.
