Utopian, anthropocentric, and biomorphic living spaces: a hypothetical and richly illustrated dialogue between two avant-garde artists at the intersection of architecture and sculpture. In this catalog, Friedrich Kiesler and Walter Pichler, two avant-garde artists from different generations and disciplines, engage in a hypothetical dialogue based on a real studio visit by the Austrian sculptor to the Austro-American architect in New York in 1963. Pichler, whose sculptures, declared as alternative living spaces, provided significant impetus in the early 1960s, meets Kiesler, who, after his groundbreaking exhibition displays and architectural visions of the 1920s, increasingly turned to sculpture. What they have in common is their critical view of traditional concepts of space and their courage to break with convention—especially with regard to interdisciplinary artistic thinking and design. Ed.: Katia Baudin, Verena Gamper, Michael Krajewski. Text: Juliette Desorgues, Verena Gamper, Almut Grunewald, Michael Krajewski, Harald Krejci, Bart Lootsma.
