Absolute Appearances is part of the research on the states of Nature that I have been working on for some years and which concerns the connections between humans and natural environments. The main nucleus of this work includes a series of photographs taken in analogue using a film that expired years ago. The images seem worn by time and are characterized by a certain metaphysical dimension which is one of the key aspects of my way of seeing photography. There is a path that gets lost in an infinite elsewhere, a fox in the night takes on a surreal appearance, other animals appear within the shots like ghostly presences. The natural glimpses show secret and magical roads and it is not known to which places they lead.

What I document here is a Nature Reserve not far from where I live: some sections, despite being very close to the city, are tangled forests of vegetation with countless trees, flowers and animals. As often happens, in recent months, a large part of those woods that I have photographed have been cut down and these photos are probably also the testimony of a natural environment disfigured by absolutely human needs. In fact, this summer forty hectares of forest were cut down right in nesting time for birds and animals. In fact, in my work there are also emblematic images of animals that inhabit the Reserve: roe deer, foxes, horses, insects.

For this project I deliberately used the analogue camera but some of the images were taken digitally.

This work is also emblematic of my photographic poetics which prefers meditation and calm observation in a moment of image proliferation.
