Jonas Kalvelis (1925-1987) deservedly called the poet of natural fragments, the virtuoso of Lithuanian nature. In 1965, he participated for the first time in the photo exhibition "Our nature", shortly thereafter invited to the then Kaunas Photo Club. Since 1970 Member of the Lithuanian Union of Photoartists, in 1976 he was awarded the honorary title of International Artistic Photography. J.Kalvelis's photo series "Forest" (1968–1984) and "Dunes" (1973–1985) earned international recognition. Organized personal exhibitions in Vilnius, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Riga, Leningrad, Moscow, Berlin. J. Kalvelis's work was presented in Lithuanian and foreign encyclopedias, biographical dictionaries, etc.
