"Journeys through the Penwith peninsular indexed through motor oil leaked from a car engine onto paper. A chance study that developed into a rudimentary method of measurement. The predetermined and geometric nature of multiple car journeys is dissolved into the fluidity of leaking oil. The work is an exploration of the myriad contradictions of oil as a substance and our relationship with it. The leaked oil bleeds onto the paper and over time changes from static negative space to an expanding orange halo. Stored solar energy, the blood of the earth, diffusing on paper." — Jack Whitefield
