The “green” book by Mindaugas Kavaliauskas, “D., G. ir Kiti”  (D., G. and Others) was presented on June 5, 2014 at the National M.K.Čiurlionis museum in Kaunas, which hosted an exhibition on the same subject a year in 2013.

“D., G. ir Kiti” is an auto-biographical story in which layers of a young person’s personal experience in the freshly regained independent Lithuania overlap with a young photographer’s experience and with the story of a construction and inauguration of a monument to two Lithuanian aviators, who overflew the Atlantic in 1933. The motive of the monument in the oak forest of Kaunas is followed in 1992-93 and 2004-2013.

The official story retraces the encounters that happened around the site of the monument.

Photographs and passages of texts that I have put together feature numerous personalities, ranging from political elite, such as Vytautas Landsbergis, Algirdas Brazauskas, intellectuals or societal leaders like Arvydas Žygas, Giedrius Kuprevičius, Vytautas Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, Pope John Paul the second, who visited the place in 1993, faces of basketball and football, whom I went to photograph in the stadium and sports hall nearby, and simply friends and relatives.

Photography people could say that this book discusses the loop of the progress and eternal imperfection of photography, featuring a variety of aspects of photography – from curiosities of making photography under Soviets to archiving, retouching, finishing of images and interfaces of digital image.
