My grandmother’s name, Nadezhda, means “hope” in Russian. She has been always interested in fashion. She used to sew clothes for herself and her children in Soviet times, when there were shortages in the stores. Now she is 94, blind and has almost lost her memory due to Alzheimer disease, but still keeps hoping to be able to sew again. I literally stitched the pieces of memory for her together in the photo book “Hope”.
Natalya Reznik is Russian-born artist based in Germany. She studied design and philosophy in Russia and works primarily with medium of photography. Reznik is the author of two self-published photo books: “Secrets” (2014) and “Looking for my father” (2016).
In her projects, Natalya works with such topics as loss, desire, memory and family, combining documentary and conceptual approaches. She is best known for her very personal work “Looking for my father”, which was selected for many international festivals and exhibitions and is in the collection of PERMM Museum of contemporary art.
“Hope” is her third photo book, it is entirely handmade and is available for order as a collector’s edition (only 15 signed and numbered copies). Design of the book is made by a celebrated Russian photo book artist Julia Borissova.
