Norilsk, situated in the Siberian North, is the most northern city in the world and the most polluted city in all of Russia. The city stands on the largest nickel deposits on Earth and was built by Gulag prisoners in the 1930s. Alexander Gronsky travelled to Norilsk in 2013 to photograph the city and its people.

Alexander Gronsky was born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1980. He is the winner of numerous photography awards, such as the World Press Photo (2012) and Foam Paul Huf Award (2010). He has previously published Pastoral (Contrasto Books, 2013) and Less Than One (Tycoon Books, 2014).
