Sequence is an artist’s book that combines a selection of more recent works by the artist. The book’s title is a play on the word sequins, a material which Sissi Farassat frequently uses for her elaborately embroidered photographs, and sequence as a succession of images and work steps. Sissi Farassat deliberately slows down the photographic process by embellishing her analogue colour prints with semiprecious stones and/or sequins, weaving in threads as one might with a carpet, or embroidering the reverse side of photographs with the silhouettes of the persons portrayed on the front. In Farassat’s work each image is changed back into an object, making it both a critique of the image and an eye-catching device.
