Robert Zahornicky takes up the photogram, knowing its history, and leads it to new artistic means of expression in the conception of a new experimental process of instant photography. "Instant Fotogramme" is the name of his four-part series of works, created in 1988, 1996, 2008 and currently 2019. Numerous picture titles bear the botanically correct names of the flora depicted in Latin. The starting point in each case are blossoms, petals, meadow flowers and grasses, which are placed individually or in an arrangement on the instant film for a short exposure time. The motivic arrangement of the flower parts takes place entirely in dark surroundings. When arranging the objects, Zahornicky acts like a blind actor who only senses the objects haptically and consciously allows aleatory in the design process. The brief source of light "paints" the motif, which then gradually releases the coloured image in a process of development lasting several minutes.
